Hosting / Email ScanningWe are proud to be able to offer customers one of the best email virus and spam filtering services available on the Internet. By using this service, every piece of email you receive via DataSnake will be automatically checked for malicious attachments before it is delivered. If a virus or worm is detected, the attachment is placed into quarrantine on the mail server and instead you receive a note telling you why it was stripped, and the sender is advised of a possible infection. We have opted for a high-grade, commercial virus scanning engine, and to offset our cost of offering this service we are making a small additional charge to customers who wish to have their email scanned. We will scan all email addresses associated with your virtual web hosting account for £5/month. Click here to see a list of all the virii we currently scan for.
This includes mail forwarders as well as POP3 boxes, but please note that if you continue to use an ISP-based email address, such as yourname@aol.com, these messages cannot be scanned by our system. If you have any questions about your current email configuration, please feel free to ask us by emailling support@datasnake.co.uk. Another feature of the scanning software we are using is an excellent spam filter. Using the SpamAssassin engine your email will be checked for the likelihood of it being unsolicited at the same time as being scanned for virii and worms. SpamAssassin uses a heuristic process that we have found to trap around 90% of junk mail. Suspected spam is not automatically deleted, though we noticed only a very small amount of false alarms from opt-in mailing lists. Instead, the subject is prefixed with {SPAM} and given an additional header so you can set you mail client to filter these messages into a separate folder to keep them out of your inbox. The mail scanning service can be added on to our virtual hosting and secure hosting packages. |
